Anything causing severe pain, swelling, bleeding, or risk to your teeth or jaw. Common emergencies: severe toothache, facial swelling from infection, knocked-out tooth, broken tooth with sharp edges or pain, lost crown or filling causing pain, dental trauma from accident, and uncontrolled bleeding after extraction. Our new-patient admissions run from 6 AM to 2 AM the next morning — 20 hours a day. If you were admitted before 2 AM, we stay until your treatment is complete — that's our standing policy, even past 2 AM. Between 2 AM and 6 AM we don't admit new patients (our team sterilizes and prepares the clinic) — but you can still call and leave us a message, and we'll call you back when admissions reopen at 6 AM. If a true emergency happens in that window — uncontrolled bleeding, facial swelling affecting breathing or swallowing, major trauma — go to your nearest hospital emergency room. For anything else, call and leave a message or arrive at 6 AM and we'll prioritize you.

Walk-ins are welcome for emergencies whenever a chair is open — usually within an hour or two. Calling first is faster because we can have your chart ready and reserve a slot.

Our emergency exam fee follows the ODA Suggested Fee Guide. Most insurance plans cover the exam fully. Treatment cost depends on what's needed — we always give you a written estimate before starting any work. We accept CDCP, direct-bill all major insurers, and offer payment plans for larger procedures.

At the emergency visit itself, the realistic option is nitrous oxide (laughing gas), where clinically appropriate — it requires no fasting and wears off within minutes, and your pain is controlled with local anesthesia either way. Deeper sedation (oral, IV, or general anesthesia) cannot be provided on the spot: it requires fasting beforehand, a clinical indication, and provider availability, so it is scheduled as a planned follow-up visit. If you know you'll need deeper sedation, mention it when you call and we'll plan for it.

Time matters: a knocked-out adult tooth has a 60–90 minute window for reimplantation. Pick up the tooth by the crown (top), NOT the root. Rinse gently with milk or saliva (not water). If possible, gently place it back in the socket. If not, put it in cold milk and bring it with you. Call us on your way.

If swelling is closing your eye or affecting your ability to swallow or breathe, go to the ER immediately — that's an airway risk. Otherwise, call us first. Dental abscesses need a dentist to drain them and prescribe antibiotics. We can usually see you same-day.
