When 3D imaging helps.
For specific cases — for example, an impacted canine or an extra tooth — we may recommend a small, focused 3D scan to plan treatment. We use the smallest field of view and lowest exposure that will answer the clinical question (ALADA principle for children). CBCT is not used routinely.

By age 1, or within 6 months of the first tooth appearing — whichever comes first. This is the recommendation from the Canadian Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Early visits aren't about treatment — they're about establishing a 'dental home,' getting your child comfortable with the team, and catching small issues before they become big ones.
Is dental sedation safe for children?
Yes, when delivered by trained staff with proper monitoring — which is our standard of care. Nitrous oxide is the most common pediatric sedation. Deeper sedation for children (oral, IV, or GA where authorized) requires additional protocols which we follow rigorously: continuous monitoring of breathing, heart rate, oxygen, and blood pressure throughout. Our sedation suite meets the standards required by RCDSO for the levels we offer.
Will my insurance cover pediatric visits?
Most family dental plans cover children's exams, cleanings, and basic restorative work. We accept CDCP and direct bill most major Canadian insurance providers. Contact us if you'd like us to verify your coverage before your visit. Bring your insurance card and any CDCP eligibility letter to the first visit.
What if my child has specific needs?
We welcome every child. We have experience caring for kids with autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, sensory sensitivities, dental phobia, and gag-reflex issues. Call ahead and we'll plan the visit around what works for your child — quiet appointment times, sensory accommodations, sedation choice, parent in operatory, whatever helps.
Can I stay in the room during treatment?
Almost always yes. For routine visits, we encourage parents to be present — kids feel safer. For sedation visits, parents stay with the child until sedation takes effect, then wait in the family lounge during treatment. For surgical procedures under deep sedation, we'll discuss the best arrangement.
What happens if my child has a dental emergency?
Call us — we admit new patients from 6 AM to 2 AM, 7 days a week, and we always reserve same-day emergency slots for kids. If your child was admitted before 2 AM, we stay until treatment is complete — that's our standing policy. For severe overnight trauma between 2 AM and 6 AM (uncontrolled bleeding, facial swelling affecting breathing), go to your nearest hospital emergency room, then call us at 6 AM for follow-up care.
Do you do orthodontics for kids?
We do early orthodontic assessments at age 7 (also CAPD-recommended) and basic interceptive treatment. For more complex orthodontic cases, we work closely with trusted orthodontists in the area for referral.
Are you a pediatric specialist?
Dentix24 is a dental practice with a team focused on children's dentistry, led by Dr. Lili. Pediatric Dentistry is a recognized specialty in Ontario requiring postgraduate training; our dentists are not certified pediatric specialists. We provide dental care to children of all ages with an emphasis on comfort and sedation when clinically appropriate. For complex cases requiring a certified specialist, we work with trusted pediatric dentists for referral.
